Remembering the Forgotten Heroes

The league had arranged its LSD Cup Preliminary Round to take place today to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day to remember those that gave sacrifices for a safer world.

What is VE day?

Victory in Europe (VE) Day on 8 May 1945 saw Britain and its Allies formally accept Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender after almost six years of war.

It is estimated that 1.5 million Indian (current day Pakistan and India) troops fought to defend Britain. Of those, 400,000 were Muslim soldiers. A number of first class cricketers from England & India served in the army during the war and all cricket was cancelled. Its ironic that we are also in a similar position 75 years on, where all cricket has been postponed and with a possibility, it may be cancelled due to COVID-19.
