We would like to show our appreciation to both Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Yorkshire Cricket Board for hosting the Quaid e Azam Premier Cricket Leagues Pre-season Meeting at Icon Headingley Cricket Ground. https://yorkshireccc.com/news/yorkshire-calls-for-grassroot-cricket-clubs-across-the-region-to-stand-together-to-tackle-racism/
The preseason meeting was organised to not only kick the season off but also for three of the prominent leagues (Quaid e Azam Premier Cricket League, The Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League and Airedale & Wharfedale Senior Cricket League) to come together with YCCC, YCB and YSF to sign a pledge to recognise and do much more to address racism and racial inequalities within community sport.
Paul Cummins, Director of Recreational Cricket for YCB, said: “A key part of YCB’s role is to lead, unite and inspire the recreational game across Yorkshire. We encourage all our partners and stakeholders – leagues, cricket clubs and community organisations to sign the pledge. Paul also presented to the clubs the need for move towards volunteers taking up Safeguarding and First Aid training with an incentive of financial support for the club overheads.
The Executive Chairperson, Basharat Hussain reiterated the importance of all clubs taking up the opportunity for better awareness of Safeguarding and assisting with First Aid not just for the financial assistance but also for improving the club structure.
The clubs were unanimous in calling the first season fixture scheduled for 21st April 2024 off due lack of ground prepare and waterlogged pitches. We will also announce early next week if we call the games off for the following week, 28th April 2024, which is also very likely considering we haven’t had a dry spell for during this week. We will provide an update on the website once we have consulted and agreed with the clubs.
