The government gave the green light for non essential shopping from the 15th June and the hospitality trade planned to open from the 4th July, its timely to start to plan for the cricket season to start sooner then probably envisaged due to reducing unfortunate death rates related to COVID-19 and the infection rate (R Rate). The government are likely announce further relaxation to the lock down of COVID-19 next Sunday, 29th June and cricket is likely to feature in this announcement if not announced earlier.
If cricket is given the green light the season may start as soon as mid July and we can comfortably structure the fixture so we can complete the games by mid to late September. Some of the options available for the fixtures
Option 1. Season start date (possible) – 13th July 2020
To play league games from 13th July to 6th September (including play offs in both Crescent and Star Section) and cup final rounds (quarter,semi and Final) to be played between the 13th and 27th September. Cup preliminary and first round to be played during mid week or bank holiday 31st August.
Format of the game 1 – League fixture to consist of 25 overs per side to play return fixture on same day to complete up to 18 fixtures (each club will play two games against the same team on the same day) Stumps (start) at 12.30pm
Preliminary and first round would consist of 20 over per side (start time 5.30pm) and the final rounds (quarter,semi and Final) would consist of 45 over per side (start time 1.00pm)
Format of the game 2 – League fixture to consist of 30 overs per side to play return fixture on same day to complete up to 18 fixtures (each club will play two games against the same team on the same day) Stumps (start) at 12.00pm
Preliminary and first round would consist of 20 over per side (start time – 5.30pm and the final rounds (quarter,semi and Final) would consist of 45 over per side (start time 12.30pm)
Format of the game 3 – League fixture to consist of 45 overs per side to complete up to 9 fixtures (league averages qualification would be minimum of 4 games) Stumps (start) at 1.00pm.
Preliminary and first round would consist of 20 over per side (start at 5.30pm) and the final rounds (quarter,semi and Final) would consist of 45 over per side (start at 12.30pm)
Option 2. Season start date (possible) – 2nd August 2020
To play league games from 2nd August to 27th September (including play off in both Crescent and Star Section) and cup rounds to be played during mid week (in August) and cup final to be played on bank holiday 31st August or all rounds between August and September with the final on the 4th October.
