League Structure – Proposal for Season 2023

Member clubs will be aware at the league’s AGM in Nov 2021 it was agreed that we would create a new tier system of 10 clubs in each one of the four sections, unfortunately we do not have enough clubs in the bottom section to form the 4th section and do not wish to disadvantage any clubs for their efforts in season 2022.

The committee at its meeting agreed to put the following two proposals to its member clubs. Both proposals are seen as fair to all 35 members clubs. The proposal with the majority vote will be agreed for season 2023. Can I request you do not contact the committee members to share you opinion.

Proposal 1 – Have three sections : Premier Section (12 clubs), Crescent Section (12 clubs) and Star Section (11 clubs). The Crescent and Star Section would be a pyramid structure and the top team in both Crescent and Star Section would be promoted and a final game between them to decide championship title. The teams are distributed based on their points in season 2022 to make the standard of cricket balanced in both lower sections.

Further information – As we have extra bank holidays in 2023 we can have the structure for season 2023 for one season but it is not sustainable long term. Our season is 24 weeks long and need 4 weeks for the cup competition so we don’t have enough weeks in the season to play 22 fixtures every year. 4 league games will have to be played on bank holidays. We would have to agree the structure for season 2024 at our Pre-season meeting in April 2023 so clubs are aware of what they are playing for. The proposal takes into account rule 4 of the constitution for both Rajpoot and Punjab.

Proposal 2 – To stay with the current structure and keep the pyramid structure with play off’s (for top 6 teams) and the mini cup competition for the rest of the teams (as we did in season 2022) : Premier Section (10 clubs), Crescent Section (9 clubs), Jinnah Section (8 clubs) and Star Section (8 clubs). The teams are distributed based on their points in season 2022 to make the standard of cricket balanced in all three sections.
