Match Report – 9th August 2020

The interest in our new league continues to attract more players, even with a short season as the competition for championship and relegation starts to take shape. The league surpassed the 1000 player records and now have 1064 active playing members registered with all member clubs. As of last Thursday the league registered 153 players since the registration window opened on the 6th July 2020, when the announcement to play recreational cricket was made. An averaging 30 players registration request are made each week.

The number of umpires providing positive feedback on their games is recognition for some outstanding cricket played in the league with good sportsmanship, well done to the clubs for setting an excellent example of how cricket should be played.

After the forth match of the short season Khan CC and Subhan CC are the only two undefeated remaining clubs and both seem the likely favourites for the play off in their respective groups. In the Premier Section the championship title chase has become wide open particularly with the introduction of the new points system. Although all teams have lost 1 match the points difference between the top and forth place is nine points.

A comfortable 9 wicket win for AK Eagles over Central Leeds at Linthwaite CC. Central Leeds won the toss and elected to bat first. The outstanding bowling from both Umar Abbas (5 for 35) and Waleed Anjum (4 for 24) restricted Central Leeds to 117. Waleed Anjum’s day got better as he secured a win for his club with an unbeaten 69.

Friends beat Mylahore Tab A by seven wickets as they chased the target of 93. Arbaz Khan’s (4 for 24) contribution with the ball restricting Mylahore Tabs A to a well below par score.

Rising Star continue with maintaining pressure on both Khan and Kings XI as they beat Northcliffe CC by 4 wickets at Burton Salmon. Nortcliffe batted first and were restricted to 141 losing the potential of maximum batting points. Rising Star chased their target with the loss of 6 wickets.

Khan CC continue with their unbeaten record as they continued with their challenge for promotion into the Premier Section. Khan bowled Mylahore Tabs B out for 136 and chased the score with the loss of just 2 wickets to claim maximum batting points. Unbeaten 77 from Hissan Khan secured maximum points for his club.

The top of the table tie in the Star Section could have gone either way as Subhan win by just 1 wicket, the innings of Mohammed Shakeel was critical to secure a win and take them to first place. Heaton Park were bowled out for 146.

Sadaqat Zaman

Diamond CC secured another win to take them to 4th place in the table as they beat Flix by 4 wickets at Caribbean Cricket Club. Flix elected to bat and scored 151 for 7 an unbeaten 50 from Sadaqat Zaman gave the home side a reasonable score to defend. The match went to the penultimate over as Diamond chased the score with the loss of 6 wickets.

Match of the day was played at Yorkshire Lions CC home ground of Woodhouse CC between Yorkshire Lions CC and Kings XI. Kings XI won the toss and elected to bat first. In their 35 overs they scored 250 for 9, contribution with the bat from Hassan Ali (97) and Hassan Zeb (56) put the club in control. Yorkshire Lions home advantage paid off as they chased the target with the loss of just 4 wickets. Innings from Rameez Khan (54), Shafaqat Alam (73) and Bilal Shahid (56 no) secured a win for their team.

Salman Syed set the highest individual score so far as he remained not out on 151 at Shadwell against Indus Bradford. Salman helped his club set a target of 257 for the loss if 6 wickets in 35 overs. Indus Bradford were all bowled out for 182 with contribution with the bat from Hazrat Zaman, Kings XI lahore won by 75 runs.

Kashmir remained unbeaten until today on a flat wicket at Jinnah Arena. Kashmir won the toss and elected to bat first, they got of to good start scoring 73 of the first 15 overs with the loss of three wickets and maintained control of the game and ended up scoring 180 of their 35 overs, pick of the bowlers from Karmand was Amer Ayub (5 – 34). Contribution with the bat for Kashmir came from Faisal Javid (41) and Hasnat Yousaf (46). Karmand chased the target with the loss of 4 wickets claiming their second win. The performance with the bat from Asif Ayub (78) and Imran Patel (55) cemented their innings to claim a win for their team.

Darulshafa claimed their first win which was down to their new signing Sajad Ali who was unbeaten on 61. Darulshafa elected to bat first and set a target of 238 with the loss of 7 wicket in their 35 overs, Bradford Moor gave a good chase but fell 28 runs short, Darulshafa claimed their first maximum points.

Aqsad Ali

Whiterose hosted Bhalot at Park Avenue, Bhalot batted first and at one stage were struggling to score above 150 but some poor bowling and fielding towards the last 10 overs the visitors managed to score 177 for 9. Whiterose were not consistent as in their previous games and only manged 148 with Aqsad Ali doing the main damage with figures of 5 for 20.

Punjab had an easy win over struggling Mylahore Seniors, Mylahore Seniors set a target of 83 and Punjab chased the score with the loss of 4 wickets.
