On a glorious day at the historic Roberts Park, home of Saltaire Cricket Club, batsmen playing on a perfect batting surface produced a feast of runs and entertainment for a bumper crowd and gave the League one of best Cup Finals in the history of the League.
OnQ won the toss asked Darushafa to bat first and looked as if they had made the correct decision by taking an early wicket, however Darulshafa pair of Naik Zada and Arsaam Malik had other ideas and made the most of the introduction of 30 yards circle for the first time to the league and used empty spaces cleverly and went on to score a partnership of over 150, leaving the batting side in total command.
After breaking this partnership, OnQ skipper Kez Ahmed brought some control to the game which looked like getting away with a spell of 3 for 47 off 9 overs. Darulshafa skipper Ayyaz Akram batted sensibly and kept the soreboard ticking with an innings of 62no until a strong finish took them to a formidable total of 277 for 6.
In response OnQ made an equally impressive start and their batting looked to be in control until the arrival of Sayed Hashmi, who bowled impressively with figures of 3 for 45 and caused a wobble in the middle of an innings, however Darulshafa were let down by their bowlers & were consistently bowling legside wides which boosted the extras by 44 runs and kept OnQ in the game without having to score boundaries.
Fahid Rehman, man of the match, played one of the finest innings seen in the league Cup Finals history.
As long as Fahid was at the crease, other batters simply had to play around him & Fahid received support from Adeel Shafique (42) & Gharib Razzak (38)
Fittingly with 8 needed off the final over, Fahid hit the winning boundary (78no) and still had a ball to spare to win a memorable Final for OnQ cc.
