Week 18 – Sunday 19th Aug 2018
With Six teams from the Premier section potentially facing relegation, The Quaid e Azam Sunday Cricket League is certainly at its most exciting, entertaining and thrilling point.
We begin with My Lahore, who just managed to beat their opponents Punjab by 1 run, in a nail-biting thriller. My Lahore were all-out for 238, thanks to Massawar Shah scoring 70. In reply, Punjab fell one run short as they were bowled out for 237. This victory takes My Lahore to fifth position in the league, however, only 4 points clear from the relegation zone. Another, fixture which also features two sides fighting the drop was between Flix AWB & Kashmir Dewsbury. Thanks to 18-year-old Mohammed Khuzaifa’s 61 & Skipper Basit Khan 41, gave their side Flix AWB a 48 runs victory over Kashmir Dewsbury. Flix AWB scored 254 – 6. In reply, Kashmir Dews were all out for 206 with Awais Hussain scoring 55 & Hasnat Yousaf 40. Mohammed Altaf was the pick of the bowlers as he took 5-36.
Jibrael Malik’s unbeaten 70*& Ishtikhar Hussain 4-44, sustains RZM’s position with 16 points clear at the top of the table. The Premier section leaders scored 232-8 as they beat 2018 Yasmin & Shahid Cup winners by 30 runs. Darulshafa were all out for 202 with Nadeem Safder scoring 49. OnQ beat rock bottom side Earlmarshall by 42 runs. OnQ have climbed up to second place due to Bhalot Strikers deduction of 11 points for playing an illegal & ineligible overseas player, scored 202 – 7 with Raqeeb Younis scoring 54. Earlmarshall paceman Imran Zafar also picked up 4-46. In reply, Earlmarshall settled for a losing draw as they finished on 161-8. Finally, in the Premier section Mohammed Uzair 51, & Majid Majeed unbeaten 61* gave 3rd placed Bhalot Strikers a comfortable 6 wicket victory over White Rose. White Rose were all out for 150 with SP Singh scoring 41. In reply, with the loss of 4 wickets, Strikers reached their target with ease.
It is equally interesting in Section A, however, this time there are 5 teams who are potentially fighting for promotion into the Premier section. We begin with the most thrilling Fixture in Section A, which finished in a tie between 4th place Raj CC & bottom side Tabs CC. Raja were all out for 192, with Musa Ahmed scoring 68 & Waqar Khan scoring 41. Despite a brave effort by Naveed Khawaja who was unbeaten on 50*, his side were all-out in the last over for 192. 3rd place Style CC have taken advantage of the above fixture, and now see themselves with a chance of promotion. Style comfortably beat Shaheen CC by 210 runs. M Siad 94, Majid Khan 81, M Yasir 72, Waqas Khan 50 gave Style a huge total of 368-6. In reply, Shaheen were all-out for 128. Diamond are showing some form of resilience in their fight for promotion as they remain 3 points clear of Section A. Diamonds celebrated a 55 runs victory over Bradford Moor who were chasing 156. Diamond had Usman Ali to thank, as he took 6-14. Having the Ayub brothers performing with bat & ball, Karmand are keeping their promotion hopes high. Karmand were all-out for 203, with Skipper Amar Ayub scoring 59. In reply their opponents, Heaton Park were all-out for 153, with Safwan Yousaf, sole contributor, as he scored 44. Asif Ayub, taking 4-16 helped Karmand to 49 runs victory over Heaton Park. Joint 4th place are Rising Stars who beat EAM by 89 runs. Tehseen Suliman unbeaten 71* & Jawad Hafeez 49 gave Stars a total of 267. In reply, EAM were all-out for 178.
With 5 fixtures to go, mathematically, there are 5 teams who could also challenge for a place in Section A. Joint Leaders Azad comfortably, beat a weak Chach Side who only played with 9 players. Shahid Mahmood 5-32 had Chach all-out for 82. In reply, Azad scored 87 with the loss of 4 wickets. Ammar Syed spectacular unbeaten 104* gave Krass Eagles a 4-wicket victory over Kings XI. This victory pushes them joint into 3rd place. Kings XI batted first and were all-out for 217 with Munzar Sharaf scoring 55. In reply Krass Eagles chased their target down with the loss of Six wickets. Joint leaders Central Leeds (with a game in hand) had a 52 runs victory over their opponents Bradford Royals. Central Leeds were all-out for 188. In reply, Bradford Royals scored 136 with Tanvir Bashir scoring 40. Navid Ahmed & Akash A; both picked up 4 wickets each. Finally, In Section A, Hamzah Iqbal 102 gave Kashmir Bradford a easy 122 runs victory over Yorkshire Lions. Kashmir Bradford scored 212 – 9. In reply, Yorkshire Lions were all-out for 90 with Bilal Shaid making 44 runs. Green Stars had a BYE.
